This
one is almost too easy. The governor of Virginia declares April as Confederate History month and neglects to mention slavery. Bruhaha ensues. Many people are pissed but the governor of Mississippi says the outrage is worth "diddly." Nice.
I was going to post on this
article. Tea Parties and conspirary thoeries...fodder for a blogger. But the comments, especially the "know your history" ones are hysterical. For those that don't here are a few facts on the American Civil War:
1. Started in 1861 and lasted until 1865. Some states left the union in 1860. All states were readmidted by 1877.
2. Slavery was the primary cause. However this cause can be seen through many lenses. Economically there were slavery vs free labor, culturally there was a great dived between free and slave states, politically there was fight to maintain the free/slave balance in Congress, another political factor was states rights that went back to the Articles of Confederation with a big blow up over the Nullification Crisis of 1832.
3. Few whites, northern or southern saw blacks as people with rights. Racism ran deep on both sides.
4. The war was fought over states rights in the press until Lincoln used the Emancipation Proclamation to make it a moral crusade and keep Britain and France out. BTW, the EP only freed slaves in areas not controlled by the Union. Kentucky, Missouri and Maryland as well as the liberated parts of the CSA slaves stayed slaves until the 13th Amendment.
Enough of this. Here is a series of comments:

It is about time the South celebrated it's great heritage. The War Between the States was over states rights. Funny now how so mnay Govenors are fighting Obama over health care a state right. This President is over stepping the Constitional powers just as those in the mid 1880's

TexasAll of you crying "racist" might want to learn a little history. When the civil war began, most Southern states had ALREADY freed the slaves. The war was fought over states' rights versus federal rights, NOT the issue of slavery, as so many mistakenly believe.

AlabamaThe civil war wasn't fought over slavery...This is a big lie. Slavery in that time was as common as red lights are now.The power was shifting to the south because of large plantations. The north couldn't let that happen. After years of war President Lincoln wrapped slavery into it.

I can't wait until the next Civil War. Time to free all the entitlement slaves! Time to free our society from the bonds of government intrusion and omnipotence.
There are a LOT more...Just read and enjoy yourself
Go Obama! Keep screwing the American people over in your tax and destroy agenda.
