Confederacy History Month

This one is almost too easy. The governor of Virginia declares April as Confederate History month and neglects to mention slavery. Bruhaha ensues. Many people are pissed but the governor of Mississippi says the outrage is worth "diddly." Nice.

I was going to post on this article. Tea Parties and conspirary thoeries...fodder for a blogger. But the comments, especially the "know your history" ones are hysterical. For those that don't here are a few facts on the American Civil War:

1. Started in 1861 and lasted until 1865. Some states left the union in  1860. All states were readmidted by 1877.

2. Slavery was the primary cause. However this cause can be seen through many lenses. Economically there were slavery vs free labor, culturally there was a great dived between free and slave states, politically there was  fight to maintain the free/slave balance in Congress, another political factor was states rights that went back to the Articles of Confederation with a big blow up over the Nullification Crisis of 1832.

3. Few whites, northern or southern saw blacks as people with rights. Racism ran deep on both sides.

4. The war was fought over states rights in the press until Lincoln used the Emancipation Proclamation to make it a moral crusade and keep Britain and France out. BTW, the EP only freed slaves in areas not controlled by the Union. Kentucky, Missouri and Maryland as well as the liberated parts of the CSA slaves stayed slaves until the 13th Amendment.

Enough of this. Here is a series of comments:

Jus donts repeal national nappy month

It is about time the South celebrated it's great heritage. The War Between the States was over states rights. Funny now how so mnay Govenors are fighting Obama over health care a state right. This President is over stepping the Constitional powers just as those in the mid 1880's

All of you crying "racist" might want to learn a little history. When the civil war began, most Southern states had ALREADY freed the slaves. The war was fought over states' rights versus federal rights, NOT the issue of slavery, as so many mistakenly believe.

lfbowman1234

The civil war wasn't fought over slavery...This is a big lie. Slavery in that time was as common as red lights are now.The power was shifting to the south because of large plantations. The north couldn't let that happen. After years of war President Lincoln wrapped slavery into it.

I can't wait until the next Civil War. Time to free all the entitlement slaves! Time to free our society from the bonds of government intrusion and omnipotence.

There are a LOT more...Just read and enjoy yourself

Some thick commentary

Here is an article about Sarah Palin and Obama having a back and forth over the new retaliation/arms reduction treaty. This comment blew me away. I apologize for the wall of text but that is how he wrote it. I am going to inject commentary into his post in (parenthesis) and in bold.

Right now I am shocked by what is happening today in America. We now have leagalized murder that is more overwhelming than Hitler's concentration camps.(WTF? Really? Have you seen concentration camps? Rail to oven is a little more overwhelming than abortions. Also Abortion is an old issue. People have been doing it legally for decades...its not the current administrations fault) I pray for those unborn innocents. I love listening to Bill O'Reilly because of the no spin zone (O'Rielly spins just as all people do. Its part of human nature to see things from our point of view) and I love the articles written by Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter. There is no veil to hide under when they comment on todays demolition of American Society (Please define American Society: Who's society? If the Constitution is a living document that means it changes to fit the needs of those living, not those that are dead). I have worked hard for 35 years and I will be nearing retirement age soon (Hope you aren't taking SS and medicare...evil government spending and all) (hoping for another 10 years of supporting our America). I sympathized our military personnel returning from Irac (Iraq??) and Afghanistan and the demonstrations that those honourable citizens are receiving....even at their own funerals as KIAs. I have been there and done that when I felt like I was disowned and mistreated on my return from our defeat in Vietnam. Obama terrifies me and,in my own opinion, we did not have the best candidate to support our traditional values so I suspect that a lot of republicans and believers of family traditional values never even went to the polls to vote. Sarah Palin becoming our vice president candidate was the only thing that I know of that energized our compaign (Family values? Working while kids are at home? Using her special needs baby as a political prop? Quiting a commitment for fame and glory? Wow nice values). Now I am seeing the "real" (Real??) America being dismantled brick by brick by most of the democrats...an America that regained her splendor under the Reagan Administration. Isn't it funny that Iran released the imprisoned Americans at the acceptance speech of President Reagan? I also saw the worldwide response of other country's respect that they now have faith in America again.......remembering President Regan's quote "take down this wall" (meaning the Berlin Wall. President Reagan won the Cold War for us that I had to live in my entire life. Under Reagan's leadership, even China began experimenting with the rewards of capitalism.(Yeah the failure of the Soviet economic model and the lack of light industry had NOTHING to do with the fall of Russian Communism. China made that shift and now owns the US) Our allies felt at ease with us during the Reagan years (Tell that to the French and Spanish that told us our F111's could overfly them to bomb Libya while Reagan was the man). I would love to hear from Michelle Malkin on how the Philippines regard us now in post Marcos time. My wife is Filipino but has not kept up what was going on in her country. She just shakes her head and sees corruption in her own country...a country that fought side by side with us when Japan seized the Philippines. I am almost ashamed to say that I enjoy visiting the Philippines rather than living here in America due to higher family value tradition and superior morality. Has anyone bought a Penthouse magazine in the Philippines recently? (Yup, no porn in the Philippines, you betcha!)Under the Reagan leadership, we regained our world respect. Under President Bush, the worlds opinion of us was lukewarm and that opened the door for the liberal extremists to overthrow our goverment. It is likely that we will see a return to the welfare state (When did we leave the welfare state?) that brings down the desire for our people to succeed and reap the rewards of sweat and hard work. Now under President O'bama (is he Irish or some filthy raghead sandnigger? Try writing his name the way he writes its), I could almost live the life I lead now without having to have a job. That has not happened yet but I see it down the road in our future unless there is a turnaround during the upcoming mid term elections. I am a disabled veteran (thank you for your service) who could have just given up and let my government "take care of me" but that didn't happen. I acquired a great gift from our government upon my return from Vietnam and, even though we were defeated, I was able under a VA loan (Enjoying those big government programs, huh), return to the university and acquire a BS degree and now I have been working for many years in the service of our country from a civilian perspective. It is a competitive world out there and we are a strong people which are hard working and making their dreams come true. I also feel sorrow for the Americans that have not been blessed with good health and I am very pleased to see that they can be taken care of. Some of the conditions that these Americans live in are not ideal and improvement needs to be made in this area....nursing homes for example (Through government grants and loans?). Americans takes care of their own and that includes legal immigrants. Now, I am witnessing the strength and honour of our country being bled by President O'bama. (He's not king, What about Congress or the millions of people who support him? Our country is still a still Republic)

This one is almost too easy

Tiger Woods is back today but I didn't see anything crazy at Augusta (-4 at the 15th  hole) or on feed. Surprising really. So I had to go back to my standard racism backup

This article is about people being upset that the British Army had faux mosques on their shooting ranges. I assume that Wanyecoloumbo meant Mecca when he typed MECA. Otherwise what is he airbursting? and where is he getting the ordinance?

waynecolombo

I am disappointed with the Brits. The soldiers are a tough and dependable bunch. Why doesn't the army tell the Muslims to take a long walk off a short pier. I have worked with British Para's and they deserve better representation then that. I'd like to put a couple of airburst over MECA. Then apologize, then do it again. Gonna have to do it sooner or later.

New lizard species and...Nancy Pelosi?

I like science, especially the life sciences. So when this article posted on Yahoo, I was excited to here about a new dragon species. This is a five to six foot long tree dwelling, fruit eating, lizard. So this series of comments (with the authors) is CRAZY.

Nilofc: If you really want blood thirsty lizards.... there are many in US congress.

Pecos Beel: Nazi Pelosi sure asHell looks like a scaley old lizard!

Man From Miami: So Does Sarah Palin

Pecos Beel:  You must be a Gay Man From Miami

E. Mechanics: I agree with Pecos Beel. Only gays find Sarah Palin unattractive.
She so damn hot!!!

Beside, you do look like a lizard with this picture of yours.

Eric: The Progressive women are very uptight. Line them up: Pelosi, Jarrett, Sutphin, Billary (sticking her head in sometimes)

Put them up against Palin. The hottest would be no doubt, by far, be Sarah Palin.

The others would just stand in the background wondering why the guys don't ask them to dance. A little group of girls like middle schoolers crying on each others shoulders.

Enjoy

IRS time

I normally would have wanted to wait until April 15th but this one is too juicy. The crazies really came out for this one.

"IRS – greedy income stealing institution, costs economy $265 billion and 7 billion hours per year to comply with, destroys real jobs, employs more investigative units than the CIA and FBI combined, divides Americans into groups, discriminating 47,000 IRS pages, etc.
Go Obama! Keep screwing the American people over in your tax and destroy agenda.
rednano74"

I love it that its Obama that created the IRS. GO CIVICS 101!

Jihad Jane and some CRAZY

So here is the article on Jihad Kane found on CNN. All the comments were short but I am going to post a few to so can get the broad spectrum.

For Racism:

DrRosenblatt
What about her lawyer? With a name like Ibrahim that deserves a look.
For most unrelated: (tie)
shodan6672
My main problem with the Tea Party movement is this: where was their "outrage" when Bush was in office, doing the same things they are protesting now (i.e. broadening of Medicaid)? Sorry, but I think the majority of them are completely full of s***.
traevale
With the crap going on in the US and in the white house... I don't have a sense of humor... I'm here to help people understand that as an individual you need to open your eyes to the unconstitutional acts and tyranny that this administration and it's media conglomerates are imposing on its citizens. I apologize for getting at you. I'm just very concerned for our country.
For most patriotic/idiotic:
KingChatalot
"America doesn't lock them up in prison without conviction "

I don;t know what "America" you live in but the one I live in has prisons overloaded with innocent people......we're only now setting them free after 25-30 years based on DNA evidence.....there's nothing being done about the poor slobs who's faulty convictions didn't rely on evidence that can be disproven through DNA testing.......

This case has "POLITICS" written all over it...............
Most 4Chan/Let's not focus on the story but on how hawt someone is:

RagingBear2
I once saw a picture of a DUDE that got turned into a woman.... looked VERY much like this "woman." Same sqare jaw, same horse face.....things that make me go .... hmmmmmmm.
